Maddy Couch was born in London and moved to Cornwall at fifteen. Maddy never went to art school but studied philosophy at university. She then travelled the world volunteering for animal, wildlife and community projects between working various jobs back home, including a stint as the Hugo stand-in on Martin Scorsese’s Hugo.
She kept journals and sketchbooks during all her adventures. And in 2017, she started sharing her work with the world.
Maddy’s work speaks to the power of compassion and the importance of protecting animals and wildlife.
Her artwork includes fine art paintings, works on paper, prints and murals. Maddy’s work features in The Curlew Magazine and homes around the world. She has exhibited in Bristol, London and New York.
Her art and storytelling have raised awareness of animal and wildlife organisations, including ORCA, Explorers Against Extinction and WDC.
She thinks Tove Jansson sums it up well: ‘It is simply this: do not tire, never lose interest, never grow indifferent - lose your invaluable curiosity and you let yourself die. It’s as simple as that. I only want to live in peace, plant potatoes and dream!’
